NCDOT DOA Director
Interim & Opportunity Information
As many of you know, Becca Gallas, current DOA Director, will be taking on a new challenge with NCDOT. Becca’s new role will be as Division Engineer for NCDOT Division 5. In this role, Becca will be responsible for transportation projects and infrastructure in the Triangle area, including: Durham, Franklin, Granville, Person, Wake (Raleigh), Warren and Vance counties. Becca looks forward to working with a number of you in this new capacity (RDU, LHZ, TDF, HNZ).
Nick Short, PE, Assistant Unit Head for Photogrammetry at NCDOT, has been appointed Interim Director of the Division of Aviation.
Nick brings a wealth of experience and a strong history of collaboration with the Division of Aviation. Over his decade of service at NCDOT, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation.
Notable highlights of his contributions include:

Leading efforts to coordinate with stakeholders, state agencies, and NCDOT to acquire 1.6 million acres of imagery in response to Hurricane Helene.

Spearheading the integration of innovative technologies such as manned aircraft sensors and uncrewed autonomous systems (UAS) for departmental applications.

Helping develop the Sanford UAS Test Site in partnership with Central Carolina Community College.

Collaborating with the Division of Aviation on a Large UAS Feasibility Study.
Nick’s background in aviation is rooted in family tradition as a third-generation aviation professional, following his pilot father and naval aviator grandfather. His interim leadership will continue to build on the Division’s mission to drive innovation and excellence in aviation.
